A Common Sense Approach to Climate Change
Nationally, concentrations of air pollutants have dropped significantly since 1990.
How to Stop the Fearmongers and Their Agenda of Eliminating all Fossil Fuels
As a child, I had severe asthma. There is no one better equipped to talk about clean air because not being able to breathe any air is a horrible ordeal and I know the importance of it.
In 2006, when I ran for the Michigan House of Representatives – clean air and the environment were one of my issues. Tesla was just starting out, and I remember an article about how Detroit needs to watch out for this new electric car company and thought that would be the greatest thing since Ford rolled out his Model T in Detroit. Solar panels to charge our vehicles would take us off foreign oil dependency and clean our air at the same time – how cool is that?
My Clean Energy Hands-on Education
It was in those days that I became a strong proponent of electric vehicles by learning about it from one of the first engineers on GM’s first electric vehicle program the EV1 program that advised my campaign.
My alternative energy education continued when in 2008, I was tapped by one of the Getty’s to rescue a failing biodiesel refinery project in L.A. that was going to convert used restaurant oil into biodiesel. I learned everything there was to know at the time about this industry. I got the project back on course, found one of the only biodiesel refinery engineers and was able to hire him away from a competitor, and a couple of years later, it was producing biofuel.
Then in 2009, I became a partner and COO of Plugin Hybrid Inc. a technology company that was taking high polluting vehicles (mostly pick-up and utility trucks) and outfitting them with electric motors and hundreds of pounds of batteries. The concept was that the electric motor would propel the truck at low, high polluting speeds (under 30 mph), and then the gas engine would kick in after that. This education in plugin hybrid vehicles added to my overall knowledge of the clean energy industry.
The reason for the above was to show that I do know a little more about the clean energy industry than most – and a lot more than the former bartender turn Congresswoman and eco-terrorist – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a.k.a. AOC.
Eco-Terrorism…
So why do I feel these people are terrorists? It’s all in the word – TERROR. They are spreading terror and fear that if nothing is done the world will come to an end in a decade. This fear-mongering is based on nothing but misinformation (and in some cases just plain lying) from people who don’t have a clue, the experience, or data to back up their incorrect claims.
They keep saying we need to do more! More what? Walk more? Trade-in your car for an expensive electric car that still uses fossil fuels? No, they want to give away our country’s advantage of our newfound energy independence to a global consortium of socialist and communist countries. Those same countries that don’t have the track record of cleaning the air like the U.S. are given exemptions putting the U.S. at an economic and trade disadvantage.
Truth in the Data (and Science)
All this talk about electric vehicles is great, but where do these geniuses think the fuel to produce said electricity comes from today? – The electric fairy? – No. Fifty-nine percent (59%) comes from fossil fuel (natural gas 40% and coal 19%), followed by nuclear at 20%, petroleum 1% and then renewables at 20% (wind 8.4%, hydro 7.3%, solar a measly 2.3%, biomass 1.4% and geothermal 0.4%).
According to the EIA (U.S. Energy Information Agency), the share of U.S. electricity generation from wind grew from less than 1% in 1990 to about 8.4% in 2020. So, it took 30 years to increase this renewable source to capture 8.4% of the market – that is an increase of .28% per year.
So, in 30 years we have increased our alternative usage by 20% an increase of .666% per year (a great number). So, according to AOC and her misinformed, fear-mongering prediction, we should probably just forget about trying to do anything because based on current growth in renewables, it will take 150 years to be fossil fuel independent and according to her – the world will end in 12 years.
The Uses of Fossil Fuel Besides Energy
So, if AOC is going to get rid of fossil fuels – that would be interesting seeing the Socialist empress with no clothes as the most commonly manufactured fibers are petroleum-based, such as nylon, polyester, acrylic, and spandex.
The thing is, these people don’t have a clue as to the multifaceted uses of fossil fuels. The asphalt we drive our cars (and ride our bikes on) would be eliminated. Paint and roof shingles – gone. Phone cases, sunglass frames, handbags, and jewelry are gone. Nail products, shampoos, some makeup, toothbrushes, and soap…no more.
Medical equipment, such: as heart valves and artificial limbs made from petroleum, but also much of the cleaning and safety products for medical personnel use. Aspirins and other pharmaceuticals also contain petroleum. So, go ahead, take away prosthetics from our war heroes with your war on fossil fuels! The list goes on – electronics, printer ink, toys for the children, and furniture would eliminate if AOC had her way.
But here is the most disturbing thing in their war on fossil fuels to clean our air – it is all based on fake news and lies to put fear into the hearts of Americans and the world at large. These “fearmongers” would never tell the truth. Because if they did, their whole narrative would evaporate.
Here are the facts from the EPA’s website:
Nationally, concentrations of air pollutants have dropped significantly since 1990:
Carbon Monoxide (CO) 8-Hour, DOWN – 74%
Lead (Pb) 3-Month Average, DOWN – 82% (from 2010)
Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) DOWN – Annual, 57%
Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) DOWN – 1-Hour, 50%
Ozone (O3) 8-Hour, DOWN – 21%
Particulate Matter 10 microns (PM10) 24-Hour, DOWN – 26%
Particulate Matter 2.5 microns (PM2.5) Annual, DOWN – 39% (from 2000)
Particulate Matter 2.5 microns (PM2.5) 24-Hour, DOWN – 34% (from 2000)
Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) 1-Hour, DOWN – 89%
Numerous air toxins have declined with percentages varying by pollutant
During this same period, the U.S. economy continued to grow, Americans drove more miles, and population and energy use increased. But would these eco-terrorists ever tell you that we continue to make great strides in cleaning our air? – No, because it’s all part of their Big Lie.
Energy independence….finally! Not so fast – the Democrats are now in control.
Under former President Trump’s leadership on energy and eliminating dependence on foreign energy, we became the leading energy producer in the world and energy independent from foreign dependency (and environmentally polluting oil tankers transporting it from places like Saudi Arabia and pipelines instead of unsafe tanker trucks). Under President Biden, that is quickly slipping back to the old days when we were at the mercy of OPEC and worse, Russia with his reversal of oil and gas drilling rights on federal land and waterways. What did this do? Fuel prices skyrocketed which contributes to inflation because almost everything we consume is transported by fossil fuel-burning trucks, trains, and planes. But, the Biden administration will never admit this as they bend to the radical left/eco-terrorist, and we all suffer.
But the obsession with electric cars being the entire solution to the world’s environmental problems has its problems and it is one big problem that everyone is ignoring through both ignorance and not caring about future consequences.
How can the environmentalists (or anyone) justify becoming fully dependent on our adversary, China and the CCP (the biggest polluters in the world) for our energy? Electric cars need batteries. Communist China controls the battery market by controlling 80% of the raw materials needed to make batteries such as cobalt (80% of the refining industry), lithium (51%). Six of the top 10 lithium battery manufacturers are in China, the rest are Korea (2) and Japan (2). The U.S. is once again putting our energy dependency in the hands of foreign nations. So, if we are going to do that – shouldn’t we at least have either an alternative or a safety net (oil/gas) should China decide to cut us off once we become totally dependent on electric vehicles?
Fanaticism vs Moderation
Do we need to do more for the environment? Of course. But as typical fanatics always do, it’s their way or the highway. Extremists ONLY see one option and are not evolved or wise enough to see the whole big picture and there is no middle ground for these people. That is the true definition of Fanaticism / Extremism; something the world and country need less of and more of moderation and open-mindedness. But the goal is to continue to divide the country at every juncture to have it destroyed so they can rebuild it in a way the majority of Americans don’t want – Socialism, Marxism, and Communism.
I believe there is a middle ground between using alternative energy in conjunction with fossil fuels. As we continue to find more ways of cleaning up the pollution discharged from fossil fuels, it is possible to use a combination of alternative and nuclear energy, thus being a wise way to keep our country strong, competitive, and prosperous.
